Rarely asked questions (RAQ)

Most people that have been to an egg meeting once will return to subsequent meetings - in fact, in more than 10 years there was only a handful of people who didn't like it.
With so many regulars, I think there will be few questions that anyone could ask, but just in case I have answered a few made-up ones, please don't hesitate to bring your own:

Rarely asked questions

Hesitant participants

  • What language do I need to know to participate?
Any one language is probably ok. Of course, overall there are more speakers of English (about 100% of the attendees, though in varying proficiency) than speakers of another European languages. But you will find that language barriers are easy to overcome.

  • What is the program? I am afraid it might be boring.
Other meetings of societies for gifted people often focus on some program. Lots of talks, lots of excursions, etc. (In the worst case you will get 20 "escape room" events and 20 presentations by people trying to make a living by coaching the gifted). The egg meeting is slightly different. We do have a few talks and maybe a city walk, but over the years the one thing people are most interested in is talking to other highly gifted people. You will not be bored.

  • At what time does the meeting start and end?
As Thursday is a public holiday in some countries, a while ago we decided to start the meeting on Thursday. So at 14:00h we open the door. As people arrive, the meeting gets going and by evening a good number of people is expected to be there.
There is nothing planned for Thursday, some will go out for dinner, but some others will stay at the venue to be there for the new arrivals.
On Sunday, we usually meet around 10:00h. Those who went partying on Saturday night usually arrive a lot later, those who might need to leave early to catch a flight will leave early - so again there is not organised program, just sitting and talking somewhere. The meeting does officially end on Sunday 14:00h, but some will stay on.
    Essentially, it's Thu 14:00 to Sun 14:00.

  • Will there be a joint opening and/or closure of the conference?
See above - we do have events where everyone will take part (the Cheese & Champagne reception and the Talent Show) because we figure that it's better to have "events for all participants" at times where there is a greater likelihood of all participants actually being there.

Eager participants

  • I am highly gifted but not a member of any society - can I still come?
This is impossible, unfortunately, unless you're someone's personal guest.

  • You don't understand, I am gifted, but...
No, sorry, it's really not possible unless you're someone's personal guest.

  • Do you know someone who can bring me as guest?
It doesn't work that way, please see our rules for participation.

  • Are you really that arrogant?
No, I am not. Please try to see it from my point of view. Being gifted, you will easily be able to.

  • You know what? Fuck you!
I am glad we had that conversation here and not at the meeting.
